Jazz en la Calle

7-2-2010: Friday

We got up and went to the biblioteca but only for an hour and a half. I finished my journals and Avila research. Then we headed to the plaza for lunch of another sandwich mixto con huevo. Courtney got a hamburguesa con huevo and it was excelente. The waiter was really nice and offered to take our picture and tried to help us find los jardines de Santo domingo de la cruz where there would be jazz in the park later. With no avail there, we found some informed people at the tourism office. They were sweet and circled our destination on the map. People in Salamanca are definitely more helpful than those in Madrid.

We explored more of the city south of the plaza after lunch and then went to school. We found out that our school hours will be pushed back to 2:45-6pm with only a 15 minute break in between classes. I don’t see the point but who knows? Dean Chapman from Samford and his wife came to visit for a few days and of course we have to entertain and be on our best behavior. They are really cool though and took us out for free icecream yet again at Novelty. This could be the reason our stomachs are eternally aching. That or the ridiculous amount of food combined with just as much walking. We took a new route home today following Caitlin to her humble abode and then detouring about 5 more blocks to ours. It’s nice to see new scenery especially if you’re going to walk for 30 minutes one direction.

Later that night we met the girls in the Plaza de Espana and walked to the entirely opposite end of the city for some Jazz in the Park. It was a fabulous free outdoor concert of a local quartet. We sat in the shadow of the illuminated cathedral and stretched out on the lawn. We didn’t stay long because we knew we had a long walk back home but the ambiance was great. Jazz in Spain, fantastic.

This was the background of the concert. The sky looked amazing!

  1. Oh man. That is beautiful. Jazz in Spain. What a combination of brilliance. I'm so glad people are more helpful there, too. Bonus!
