Today was a good day. We got to sleep in til 9 and then we went to church. We went to Iglesia Evangelia Cristo Vive where our friends Esteban and Ismael play guitar for worship. We had a little trouble finding it, but thanks to the nicest street cleaning man who walked us 2 blocks to show us where to go, we made it. The worship and songs were great. After that, all the youth got up and left. Needless to say, we were very confused. When we finally followed suit a few minutes later, they were all gone to Sunday school in apparently some remote location. Oh well, we decided we should be heading back home for lunch anyways. So, after grabbing a 2L bottle of Fanta (delicious), we ate our hamburgers and apples at home and crashed for a nap.
At 3pm we met some of the Samford group in the Casa de Campo park to help a Samford grad turned missionary with evangelism. Every weekend, a huge group of mainly Ecuadorians set up booths with food and hand-made goods to sell and just to hang out. As immigrants, they feel excluded and looked down upon in Spain so we were there just to make conversation and tell them about this missionary's church. It was fun getting to talk to a few couples. We took turns buying a drink or a bracelet which opened up conversation that we sometimes managed to turn into conversations about the church or immigration. South Americans are so much kinder, nicer, and more hospitable than Spaniards. I think these people would have sat and talked to us--strangers-- for hours.
From there we hiked, literally, through the park to find the "teleferico". This is basically a ski-lift over Madrid. After miles of walking and climbing we found the start and rode over the city for only 3.50. You could see the mountains on one side and the palace on the other. It was beautiful.
After that we headed home for some tortilla and green beans covered in some sort of tomato sauce. It was pretty good. Our madre says she's going to take all us girls out to her favorite chocolateria on Tuesday before the other girls leave on Thursday. We're all pretty excited.
Here are some pics from the Teleferico:
I can't wait until the chocolateria post. :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, we stayed at the StadMadrid, on Calle del Barco 10, 1º Izquierda. Good place! Have a good day tomorrow!
